Alexander Volkanovski Slams Claims of Fighting Diego Lopes: “There’s no talks”

The former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is one step away from removing ‘former’ from his current label. He aims to fight Ilia Topuria next and dismissed the idea of fighting the rising contender Diego Lopes. Volkanovski’s justification is very simple – he's laser-focused on securing a title shot and reclaiming a position that was once his for a considerable amount of time. Ilia Topuria has proven to be a lethal weapon – it will be fascinating to see how well he performs in his next title defense.

In a recent interview, Alexander Volkanovski explained how he’s not looking forward to facing Diego Lopes next. 

“I don’t know where that sort of [came] from.” Volkanovski said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. “I think the fact that he’s obviously said, ‘Let’s do it in Sydney,’ I think people just ran with that. There’s no talks to that at all. You never know, right? But, yeah, obviously we’re going to fight for the title so that’s where we’re mainly going to focus, but we’ll see what happens. There is definitely nothing locked in”.
