Olympic medalist Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain said on Thursday that she is taking an indefinite break from tennis because the physical and mental pressure of the past few months has been too much.

Sorribes Tormo, who won bronze in doubles at the Paris Olympics last year, said she had "suffered for months" on the court before deciding to take some time off to restore her mind and body.

"The cheerful and happy Sara you see off the court is far from the reality of everything I carry inside me," she wrote on Instagram.

"I have lost the excitement for training, improving, and even going to tournaments. The moments of suffering far outweigh the moments of calm, and this is coming from someone who has always loved working, improving, and competing. So, in addition to needing help, I feel like I need to stop and rest."

She recently won her sixth doubles title with compatriot Cristina Bucs in Bogota, while also winning her final singles match in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier between Spain and Brazil earlier this month.

"I want to be coherent and consistent with what my body feels," said the 28-year-old Spaniard, adding that she was unsure whether the break would be "permanent or temporary."

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz, also a well-known Spanish tennis player, recently spoke about the fact that he needs a break from tennis, after difficult moments on the courts. The Spaniard spoke openly about the problems regarding expectations from the public and the pressure he feels.

Alcaraz, although a young tennis player, has been relevant on the tennis scene for years, so it is not surprising where his fatigue and difficulties come from.

There is a growing trend among athletes to retire when they feel saturation. It is not known whether such breaks will last for a short time or for a long time. It is clear that everyone has a different way of dealing with pressure and expectations.
