Although the moves of Dallas Mavericks manager Nico Harrison caused various reactions, mostly criticism and anger, he still firmly believes in his decisions, believing that he did the best thing for the club. The departure of Doncic deeply shook Mavericks fans, who still have question marks over their heads after the departure of the big star.
Dallas Mavericks manager Nico Harrison explained again why he traded Luka Doncic and reiterated that "defense wins titles," using it as his decision to let one of the NBA's biggest stars go to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Harrison reiterated that stance Tuesday to select reporters covering the Dallas Mavericks. In the one hour conversation, the main topic was the player trade, in which Doncic moved to the Lakers, and Anthony Davis and several players to the Mavericks.
Harrison shares his views
He admitted that he does not regret his decision, believing that he did the right thing for the team that wants to progress and win big trophies.
“I have no regrets. Part of my job is to make the best decisions for the Mavs, not just today but for the future, and some of the decisions I make are going to be unpopular. That’s my job. I have to stand behind those decisions,” said Harrison, who sent Dončić to the Lakers just months after the Slovenian led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals.
“Our philosophy is that defense wins titles, that’s what we’re built on. I’ll say it again, defense wins titles,” Harrison said, adding:
We believe in the move we made. Obviously, you don’t believe in it, and that’s fine. You’re entitled to your opinion, but we’re excited. I think you’ll change your mind when we win,” Harrison concluded.
It's hard to say how good a decision it really is. Letting such an important figure of the team to the Lakers is certainly a move that will be talked about for years to come. However, who knows, maybe the future will convince us of the correctness of his decision.
