Eubank Sr. backs son after victory, criticizes Conor Benn’s career management

The eyes of the boxing world were focused on the ring in the middle of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night, where Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, 32 years after their fathers last fought, delivered what many consider to be the best fight of 2025. The crowd at the London Stadium, as well as those watching the middleweight bout around the world, were treated to 12 intense and action-packed rounds. After 36 minutes of absolute "war" between the ropes, Chris Eubank Jr. emerged victorious by unanimous decision (116-112, 116-112 and 116-112).

It was in many respects a specific boxing match with a strong family background, and an additional dimension was given by the fact that Eubank Jr. was joined by his father, Chris Eubank Sr., when he went out to the ring, which caused surprise and applause from all present, since the relations between the Eubanks (were) so damaged that Sr. practically disowned his son beforehand. At a crucial moment, however, he stood by his side and together they went out to Tina Turner's song "Simply The Best", with whom Eubank Sr. also once went out to matches, and then accompanied his son in an epic "war" with Benn.

Eubank Sr.  reacts

After the match, Eubank Sr. commented on what he witnessed, and expressed support for his junior, but also respect for the defeated Benn.

- I was always here for my son, no matter what you thought - the 58-year-old Briton told TalkSPORT and briefly reflected on the fight: - Uncertainty is part of the game. Great performances, championship rounds, hand-to-hand fighting, we've seen it all.

He then paid tribute to Conor Benn, but also criticized his team.

- I have to give him credit. I said he was a superior fighter, but he shouldn't fight in the middleweight division. He's a welterweight, why isn't he fighting around the world in that division? - Eubank Sr. asked himself and sent a sharp message: - He was destroyed by the people who are managing his career. You have to hold them accountable, let them do their job!

Conor's father, or Eubank Sr.'s former rival - Nigel Benn - was also present in the ring before and after the fight, and after the fight, despite his son's first defeat in his professional career, he was proud of him.

- He had a really good fight. "They will learn a lot from this and come back stronger," said the 61-year-old Briton, adding in conclusion: "We can take defeat with dignity, and now we are returning to the gym."
