From TNT to college basketball: Shaq named GM at Sacramento State

2 weeks ago 5

After a rich playing career, Shaquille O'Neal swam into journalistic waters, where he worked for years as an expert consultant on "TNT" and delighted the broad basketball masses with his likable, but often harsh comments. Now he has found himself a new job, and what is particularly interesting is that he will be doing it as a volunteer, which means that he will not be paid for it. As ESPN reports, he will become the general manager of Sacramento State College.

What is also interesting is that his son Shakir, who moved to it from Florida in March, goes to the same university. He will be coached by another well-known name from the NBA milieu, Mike Bibby, who is the head coach of the team.

By the way, this is not the first time that the popular Shaq is in some way connected with Sacramento, since he was a minority owner of the Kings from 2013 to 2022.

O'Neil: What can we expect from him?

Since hanging up his sneakers, O'Neill has made his wallet significantly fatter with smart business moves as he owns several fast food restaurants and an auto insurance company. He has lucrative contracts with companies such as PepsiCo, Icy Hot, DraftKings, NBA 2K, Wheaties, JCPenny and many, many others. Moreover, Shaq has built a successful investment portfolio, which includes ownership stakes in companies such as Google, Papa John's and various franchise businesses.

Then it's no wonder that he agreed to work for Sacramento State for nothing.

It will be quite interesting to see how Shaq will fare this time, but knowing him as a person, i.e. his charisma, resourcefulness and wit, there is no doubt that we can expect great things from him as a general manager.

O'Neil is one of the greatest legends of the NBA, and a man who left a huge mark in basketball, which no one will ever be able to erase.
