Jake Paul will make his 13th professional boxing appearance (11-1-0) at the end of June. His opponent will be Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of one of the most legendary boxers of all time, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Paul's opponent boasts the WBC world title he held from 2011 to 2012 in the middleweight division, while his father won world titles in three different weight classes.
The 39-year-old Julio is currently far from the highest level. His last appearance was in July of last year, when he outboxed Uriah Hall. Before that, he had a break that lasted more than two and a half years, and many remember his somewhat shocking loss to the then 46-year-old Anderson Silva in mid-2021. Chavez has not boxed at a high level for a long time and Paul will actually enter this match as a favorite.
After that, Jake would love to box against Canelo Alvarez or Badou Jack for the world title. While Canelo is not particularly interested in a clash with Paulo, Badou Jack shows a certain interest and we have no doubt that he would be happy to get paid in a match against a realistically immature opponent.
However, Jake Paul could find himself in a bizarre match later this year. In an interview with "The Ring", Jake revealed that he could fight Gervonta Davis in the 11th month of this year!
- We are working on it, but we are not revealing much yet. It is a match in which the biggest winners will be the fans, and the event would be the biggest this year. We agree on the weight, and it is clear that the match will be an exhibition match, most likely. - said Paul.
The bizarreness of this match lies in the weights of the two boxers. Jake Paul will box against Chavez in the cruiserweight category (-90.7 kg) and that is somehow his most natural category. In his last fight against Mike Tyson, Paul fought in the heavyweight division and weighed 103.1 kilograms at the weigh-in.
Gervonta Davis
Gervonta Davis, on the other hand, is an undefeated boxer and world champion, but in the lightweight division (-61.2 kg). At the weigh-in before his last fight against Lamont Roach Jr., Gervonta weighed 60.7 kilograms. So, if we compare the weights of Gervonta and Paul before their last fights, the difference is over 40 kilograms.
We are used to Jake boxing against old and worn-out MMA fighters, even against Mike Tyson who is close to 60 years old (58), but this is something completely new from Jake. Gervonta is technically light years ahead of Paul, but the difference in size is simply enormous.
