The legendary Jose Aldo steps into the cage again this weekend against Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Ahead of the bout, Aldo spoke about his last fight, the outcome of which he found very difficult to accept.
Last October at UFC 307, Aldo fought Mario Bautista and lost by a very controversial split decision. Many believed that ‘‘Junior’’ won, and Dana White himself said at the time that the judging was disastrous.
- I was ******* pissed. I was mad at myself. It was no disrespect to my opponent, nothing like that. He went out there and did his job. But the thing is, I couldn’t even talk about anything related to the fight - Aldo said at UFC 315 media day.
Bautista fight
The fight with Bautista was full of clinch and control on the wire, without much action. Although many criticized the refereeing, and Bautista for avoiding the fight, Aldo still blames himself for the negative outcome.
- I've been doing this for a long time and people expect it from me. There is my style. Aggressiveness. You win or lose, but you deliver. No matter what, you have to force the fight on your opponent - he stated.
- I came with plans. We thought about tactics, analyzed the opponent. We had plans of what we could do. And then I just stood there like an idiot by the fence. Nothing happened. I was furious. Everyone was furious. I couldn't talk about the fights for a while. I was excluded from everything. I'm paid very well for this. People expect that from me - the Brazilian continued.
- You go out there and fight. I was angry about everything that happened. I couldn't talk about the fights. Even my head was turned off because I couldn't even think about how frustrating it was. I'm going to go out there no matter what. No disrespect to the opponent. You're paid to fight. You go out, win or lose, but you go to the opponent. I don't want to talk about it. I just want to go out and do my thing," Aldo said.
