On Saturday, Barcelona managed to win Copa del Rey after they beat Real Madrid 3:2 after extra time in a great final.
This is the second trophy of the season for the Catalans, as they managed to win the Spanish Super Cup at the beginning of the year.
However, Flick's machinery does not want to stop there, considering that they are still very much in the game to win La Liga, where they are the leaders with four points more than Real, and the Champions League, where they play against Inter in the semi-finals.
The arrival of Flick on the bench of Barcelona turned out to be a great move, even though it was a rather unexpected move last summer.
Namely, just a few weeks before that, Barcelona announced that Xavi Hernandez will remain as coach, which Joan Laporta confirmed at the press conference. Because of this, everyone was shocked when, just a few weeks later, Xavi was fired, and Flick was chosen as the new coach.
It is now clear that it was a complete hit by Barcelona's top men, but Laporta admitted that he was not the one who decided to make the change of coach.
Laporta had different views
Laporta was in favor of Xavi staying, but Deco and Bojan Krkić managed to convince him to bring in Flick. He eventually listened to them and it turned out to be a great move for Barcelona.
"The one who decided to make Flick the first-team coach was Deco. He was a reinforcement for Deco and Bojan. I liked him from the start and I wanted him with us from the start. As the club president, I always have something to say, but the credit goes to those two. They analyzed him from both a sporting and a human perspective," admitted Laporta.
He is also aware that they were not exactly fair to Xavi because they first promised him that he would stay, and then handed him his resignation.
However, Laporta said that he greatly appreciated that Xavi accepted it without any anger and once again showed how much he loves Barcelona.
