A little less than two full months have passed since Marvin Vettori's last appearance. The Italian, who for a long time was convinced that he was the best fighter in the UFC middleweight division and that it was only a matter of time before he would get the belt, is going through some very bad moments in his career.
In his last four appearances, Vettori has recorded three losses and only one win. He lost to Robert Whittaker, then defeated Roman Dolidze, and then he lost to Jared Cannonier and the aforementioned Dolidze, who won in a rematch. Vettori was extremely disappointed after his defeat to Dolidze. His work habits are not in question, he constantly gives his best, he is dedicated to the sport, but the results are lacking.
Despite the bad streak, but also the recent tragic death of his younger brother Patrick, Marvin does not plan to be away from the cage for long. On July 19 (the seventh month), Vettori will return to the ring and will have the opportunity to resolve his differences with Brendan Allen. Namely, Allen will be Vettori's opponent, and the fight will take place at the UFC 318 event.
Back in the fourth month of last year, Vettori and Allen were supposed to cross gloves in the cage. However, Vettori canceled the show due to injury and a series of social media fights ensued. It was Marvin's first match cancellation in his career, but Brendan "rubbed salt in the wound" with his name-calling and greatly frustrated Vettori.
We got proof that tensions are at a high level between the two of them in the eighth month of last year. After the PFL event, which featured the light heavyweight and lightweight semifinals, Vettori and Allen met inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. The close encounter turned into a physical confrontation and many people including security had to separate the duo.
Alex Behunin reports
According to a report by renowned journalist Alex Behunin, Vettori first tried to fight light heavyweight Tuco Tokkos, but missed with a punch. Michael Johnson, also a UFC fighter, tried to separate everyone involved in the fight, and when a large clearing appeared, Allen jumped in and threw several punches in Vettori's direction. Marvin released a video shortly after showing his face without a single scratch, and "the icing on the cake" was the statement of Dana White.
"It was definitely the fight of the night if it happened at a PFL event."
