FORMER UFC champion Francis Ngannou (38) has reportedly been involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in Cameroon. According to three Cameroonian media outlets, Camer.be, Lebledparle and ActuCameroun, the martial arts star was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a 17-year-old girl in Yaoundé.
Although the exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known, the girl suffered serious injuries to her arm and leg and was taken to hospital by Ngannou himself, where she died. Local media reported that the girl’s name was Ntsama Brigitte Manuella. Ngannou was reportedly left in a state of shock.
He paid for her treatment and Cameroonian authorities are now investigating the tragedy that occurred over the Easter weekend, local media reported. Ngannou’s representatives have yet to comment on the case, although they were contacted by Daily Mail reporters. Martial arts sources claim that he has not been heard from for days, the English media added.
The accident was first reported by Cameroon-Online, and the reports have given conflicting accounts. According to one, Ngannou was in a vehicle that hit a girl on a motorcycle. According to another, she was a pedestrian and he was riding the motorcycle.
Ngannou's son died last year
Ngannou is a former UFC heavyweight champion. He also tried his hand at boxing, losing to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, before winning the PFL title by defeating Renan Ferreira.
His one-year-old son died last year. "His passing was too soon. My boy, friend, partner Kobe was happy and full of life. Now he lies lifeless. I called his name, but he didn't answer.
He brought out the best in me, and now I don't know who I am anymore. Life is unfair because it hits where it hurts the most. How do you deal with something like this? How do you live with this? Please help me, I don't know how to deal with this," Ngannou wrote at the time.
