PFL star Francis Ngannou has spoken out for the first time since the accident, which, according to Cameroonian media reports, resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.
The accident happened over the Easter weekend in the Omnisports district of the Cameroonian capital when a motorcycle driven by a former UFC champion allegedly hit a young girl. She sustained serious injuries to her arm and leg and was immediately taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, she died at the Yaoundé General Hospital.
"I have been with the family from the beginning, offering them support and sympathy in this difficult time. I have visited them privately, shared their pain, and will continue to be with them throughout this period," Ngannou said to TMZ Sports.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the authorities in Cameroon are working to determine the circumstances of the crash. Details such as the speed, protective equipment, and possible causes of the event have not yet been officially released.
This accident comes at a time when Ngannou was on the road to recovery, both professionally and emotionally. Last year, in October, he returned to MMA with a victory over Renan Ferreira in his PFL debut, his first appearance in over two years.
In April 2024, he lost his son, Kobe, who died at the age of just 15 months. The former UFC champion did not hide how much it broke him, so the latest events made his suffering worse.
According to Camera, the Cameroonian knockout stayed at the accident scene and did everything he could to help the injured teenager. He called an ambulance, contacted the family, and assumed all medical expenses, hoping that the doctors would be able to save the young girl's life.
Ngannou was born and raised in Cameroon but came to Europe to pursue a professional boxing career. He later started practicing MMA and made his UFC debut in 2015.
The Cameroonian became the UFC heavyweight champion in 2021 but left the organization after a long-running contract dispute. After that he had two boxing matches against Tyson Fury and Antony Joshua where he showed great boxing skills.
