Vasek Pospisil surprised by Novak's statement: 'I don't know why he said that'

It appears that there was some disagreement at the top of the PTPA, which launched a lawsuit against the leading tennis organizations.

In March, the PTPA surprised the tennis world when, through its lawyers, it decided to seek justice in court, so 11 male and female tennis players signed a lawsuit that was filed with the court in New York.

Some of the world's best tennis players have accused the ATP, WTA, ITF and ITIA of being a "cartel". The signatories included, among others, Nik Kirjos, Sorana Cirstea and Reilly Opelka, while Briton Clarke Jay later chose to withdraw his signature.

The Serbian tennis player was asked about this lawsuit, believing that there are things with which he absolutely does not agree.

"I really hope that the governing bodies, including the PTPA, will sit down and solve the problems. This is a classic lawsuit, lawyers with lawyers, that type of situation. To be completely honest with you, there are things in the lawsuit that I agree with, but also those that I don't agree with. I think that some too strong words were used, but I assume that the legal team knows what they are doing in terms of the terminology they use to cause the right effect," Novak said at the time.

Vasek Pospisil reacts

Vasek Pospisil recently appeared at a court hearing in New York, and reporters later asked him what he thought about Novak's statement. He seemed a bit surprised.

"I was surprised. I don't know why he said that. It was not in line with previous conversations," said the Canadian.

Earlier on the YouTube channel "The Slice Tennis", Pospisil said that Novak was strongly involved in the whole process.

"He was part of the process, he was constantly informed and involved through the agent, it was a long time before the lawsuit was filed. From my conversations with him, I believe that his point of view is that we did not want everything to revolve around him, but for it to be something group related to the necessary changes in tennis. As a co-founder of the PTPA, he played an active role in the process, although he wanted to be present from that angle, not so directly. He had his reasons for that choice, but he has no dilemma that he was fully involved and supportive of the lawsuit," he said.
