There is still no news about the match we all want to see between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall for the UFC heavyweight title. Although Dana White previously said that everything is resolved and that the fight will be officially announced soon, until now, none of this has materialized.
Many claim the main reason for the stalemate is Jon Jones, who is said to be afraid of Aspinall and is avoiding matching him. First, he asked for a huge sum of money, then he expressed his desire to clash against Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, but after Pereira lost to Magomed Ankalaev, it seems that the champion currently has no other option than a young Brit.
The legendary Vitor Belfort, former champion and veteran of the sport, advised JJ not to enter the match.
"He doesn't have to prove anything to anybody anymore. But he's a guy who always wants to prove that he can beat this guy and that guy. I'd like to see him go while he's still on top. I don't want to see him lose a fight," Belfort told renowned UFC reporter Helen Yee.
"Aspinall is a big risk for him. It would be great to see that fight, but, man, Tom is too young. He's in his prime. It's too big a risk, and I don't recommend that Jones take it. He's done everything he has to in this sport," he added.
It is quite natural that JJ chooses his opponents according to his standards, but even in that case, if he does not want to defend the belt against Aspinall, then he must give it up. The Brit himself said that he is not interested in Jones as an opponent and that there is nothing to prove against him; the only thing he is interested in is the championship belt.
Tom has almost completely "cleaned up" the challengers within the top 10, and no one can dispute that he deserves a shot at the heavyweight belt.
