Deontay Wilder is no longer the boxer he used to be, and the series of defeats in his last fights only confirms that his career is on the decline. After his impressive winning streak was halted by Tyson Fury in their trilogy clash, he suffered another heavy defeat against Chinese boxer Zhilei Zhang in 2024, where it became clear that he was no longer in his prime.
Many have advised him to retire from boxing to avoid further heavy hitting, but "The Bronze Bomber" has no plans to retire and will soon face Tyrrell Herndon. That fight should mean a fresh start for him, and with a possible victory, he should regain his lost confidence and potentially turn to bigger challenges.
Since Wilder is not in the best shape, it is no surprise that many heavyweights want to fight him, aware of his worldwide popularity and name. One of them is Jarrell Miller, who stated that he would easily beat the ex-WBC champion, to which Deontay replied:
"The only thing he can destroy is burgers, and he's not good enough at that either. When it comes to him, it's just talk, talk, talk, talk. But if he wins this fight, I can't wait. I hope he's already paid for his funeral. I'm not kidding. If I saw him now, I'd slap him," The Bronze Bomber said in an interview with TMZ.
Miller will also step into the ring in June, and his opponent will be Fabio Wardley. If Miller wins, he could face another big challenge, possibly against Wilder. It all depends on how Deontay does against Herndon.
Herndon believes that his moment will finally come on June 27, while Deontay is counting on victory and is probably already thinking about mega-fights such as the one against Francis Ngannou, which has been rumored for a long time.
Although many suggested that Wilder should retire after his loss to Zhilei Zhang, it appears that he is not ready to retire.
